Wewood X WOHA: a Singaporean-Portuguese partnership
We are proud to announce that we have decided to join forces with the Singapore-based architecture company WOHA, with a partnership on furniture and home décor objects under the WOHAbeing brand.
With 24 years of experience, WOHA have gained global recognition for their integration of environmental and social principles at every stage of the design process.
They have designed a diverse amount of innovative and highly influential projects, which have been built in a number of cities and countries, and their best-known projects have been widely publicised as benchmarks for sustainable design.
Here is a quick view of three of their projects - we will be showing you more in the coming months.
1. PARKROYAL on Pickering, Singapore
Designed as a hotel and office in a garden, the project at Upper Pickering Street is a study of how we can increase the green replacement in a high-rise development in the city centre and multiply it in a manner that is architecturally striking, integrated and sustainable.
2. Alila Villas Uluwatu, Bali
This hotel and villa development is a Green Globe 21 rated ecologically sustainable development. Located on the dry savannah landscape of the Bukit Peninsular on the Indonesian island of Bali, it comprises a 50-suite hotel with 35 residential villas. The development proposes luxury as delight and enjoyment of the natural beauty and sense of place, rather than excessive consumption. The design combines the delights of traditional Balinese pavilion architecture and rural landscapes with modern dynamic treatment of space and form.
3. Kampung Admiralty, Singapore
The form and appearance of WOHA’s architecture is always guided by the local context and culture, and above all, by the local climatic conditions, which determine every energy-saving strategy. In order to revitalise their urban environments, WOHA’s structures are designed to harmonise with and incorporate natural ecosystems, and to proactively encourage self-sufficient cities, which will have no need for the destructive use of artificial energy.
WOHA recently launched the design & lifestyle brand WOHAbeing that is about living well by living simply, sustainably and celebrating the beauty of the world.
They draw inspiration from the past and propose how we should live in the future.
Since January, Wewood started to manufacture and distribute the furniture of the WOHAbeing Bintan and Ulu Indoor Collection.
The possibility of joining values that are common to both brands, like great quality standards, progressive design and the creation of products that are highly competitive in the furniture industry, were the key factors for this partnership.
Mun Summ Wong, one of WOHA's co-founders, says that he's "really excited to work with Wewood" and he thinks that the quality of our products "is absolutely top-notch and we share a similar outlook on design, sustainability and craftsmanship”.
Richard Hassell, the other WOHA co-founder, thinks that "It's wonderful to collaborate with partners who have experience not just in manufacturing but who know the industry and are plugged into the market”.
It is about making and craft, balance and proportion, and about texture, colour and form.
