Porto: Best Small City for Monocle Magazine
Porto is the best small city to live and work according to The Monocle Small Cities Index 2021.
It all started last year when Monocle magazine’s The Forecast launched their inaugural Small Cities Index. The idea was to profile small cities that challenged its readers living in big metropolis to consider a fresh start in a smaller place, without losing what they love about urban life.
They searched for well-connected cities that offer great business opportunities, welcoming culture and access to nature and met citizens already living and thriving in these places. Porto appeared in 9th place.
With the big changes that 2020 brought us all, many big-city citizens thought about life in quainter, quieter spots with space to move around and fresh air to breathe. This index is more essential now than it was 12 months ago for those who are thinking about downsizing from the metropolis to a more manageable municipality.
Porto is Monocle’s first choice and some of the most important reasons for this is the city’s business-oriented character and also the industry that surrounds it.
Lots of international designers are moving to Porto to live closer to the supply chains, mostly furniture manufacturers. Things that Wewood started connecting for almost a decade.
