The house and furniture from the movie Parasite

Everybody is talking about Parasite, the movie, and some consider a surprise that it was nominated for six Oscars and won four. It won't win the Best Production Design Oscar, but the house and the furniture where most of the scenes happen is worthy of record.

The Park House, that appears to be a mansion is just an elaborate world built to the director’s exact specifications: construction spanned four different spaces, with footage from each mixed in post-production to create a seamless structure on screen.

The primary space is deceptively simple: a giant open-floor plan cascades from the kitchen through the living room, which in turn looks out onto the front lawn separated by a wall of glass. Two barefaced staircases connect the uninterrupted expanse to a series of bedrooms above and a small basement below it.

The furniture, paintings and furnishings were really expensive. The cast and crew members certainly didn’t know why it’s so expensive, but the rich audience members and those who work with furniture and interior design will certainly recognize it.

The furniture, from the tables to the chairs to the lamps, was custom-made by the South Korean carpenter Bahk Jong Sun, chosen for his sleek, angular aesthetic. He finds inspiration in the Korean furniture making tradition dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as in the clean, linear forms of mid-century Scandinavian modernism. Bahk is well known for his modernist forms created by using natural wood.

The furniture has a warm as well as a cold, metal-like feeling with the straight-cutting edges and clear ratios.

According to the production designer, Lee Ha Jun, the table, constructed of cherry wood, cost 18 000€; the dining table where Mrs. Park first meets Kevin is valued at 20 000 €; the chairs are 1 900 € a piece and a brass lamp is 12 500 €.

The house isn't liveable, but it's certainly a dream house not only for the Hollywood Boulevard residents and uptown New Yorkers but also for the audiences all over the world.
