Wewood pieces at the Official Residence of the Prime Minister of Portugal

At the initiative of the Prime Minister of Portugal — with the curation of Bárbara Coutinho, Directress of MUDE (Portuguese Design and Fashion Museum) —, some pieces of our collection were selected to be part of the exhibition "Design in São Bento — Traços da Cultura Portuguesa", available to the public from January 25, 2020, at the Official Residence of the Prime Minister.

The curatorial intervention in the main rooms of the Official Residence of the Prime Minister of Portugal includes two Bowie sofas and an XI bookshelf designed by Gonçalo Campos, three Hexa coffee/side tables, designed by Daniel Vieira and also a Corner center table.

The initiative aimed at transforming this space of sovereignty and exhibiting an epic number of national design, heritage and Portuguese culture, amplifying a voice from different age groups and times in our country, selecting a sample of pieces of furniture, lamp, textiles and objects from the 12th to the 21st century.

The integration of decorative arts and popular crafts, presented as examples of rationality, resource-saving, engineering, beauty and alteration, shows a more comprehensive concept of the project while allowing the capacity of men, proving the relevance of traditional flavours as a source of inspiration, education and development, and project evidence or value as the foundation of a sustainable development model.

This unprecedented initiative represents the various national sectors of production, demonstrating the importance of design as a strategic factor of innovation and popularity that embodies the brand Portugal. “Design em São Bento – Traços da Cultura Portuguesa” will be open for 18 months, and offers guided tours every first Sunday of each month.
